Here at Yano Da! we have been deeply saddened by the oppression, violence and division that has been conducted towards people of colour throughout history, and most recently in the events leading to the death of George Floyd.
Our label would never have been conceptualised let alone created if it were not for our shared love of music of all genres; most notably Rock and Roll, a cultural force so heavily entrenched in rhythm and blues and Black music and culture. Pioneers like 'The Architect' Little Richard, Bo Diddley & Robert Johnson to name a few, have shaped the tastes and permeations of the genre since the beginning and long will such icons continue to do so. Without their efforts and the sacrfices of black artists we would not share and enjoy the fruits of this diverse and wonderful musical landscape that we find ourselves within today.
Speaking in response to the death of George Floyd, BBC Radio 1 Presenter Clara Amfo delivered a powerful message of Amanda Seales that 'You can't enjoy the rhythm and ignore the blues'. A statement that resonated deeply with us, and one that we wish to share.
As an act of solidarity and contribution towards the Black Lives Matter movement we have designed a T-Shirt that we will donate all profits to The Anthony Walker Foundation, a local Liverpool charity that aims to 'promote racial harmony through education, sport and the arts, promoting the celebration of diversity and personal integrity and the realisation of potential of all young people.'
