Takweer تكوير is a platform founded by Lebanese multidisciplinary artist and designer Marwan Kaabour in 2019. Takweer explores, archives, and celebrates queer narratives in Arab history and popular culture.
Takweer is the title of the 81st Surah of the Qu’ran that tells about signs of the coming of the day of judgement. The word takweer is derived from qura (Arabic for sphere), and it means ‘to form in the shape of a sphere’, or as I like to think of it ‘to (re)create the world’. For a bilingual, code-switching speaker, Takweer means: To make queer, to see the world through queer eyes, or via a queer gaze rooted in Arab culture and history.
The 'Mithli' Tee combines two popular Arab sayings: Mithli Mithlak "مثلي مثلك" (There is no difference between us, I am just like you) and Mithlak Amthal "مثلك أمثال" (There are many who are just like you). The word Mithli مثلي, also means gay in Arabic. When put together the entire sentence reads Mithli Mithlak Mithlak Amthal "مثلي مثلك ومثلك أمثال", which reads: I am just like you (or gay), and just like us, there are many.

Orders are printed and shipped when the campaign ends and are mailed first-class. Each campaign needs to reach it's minimum sales in order to be successful.
