Chi Nwosu is a Black, nonbinary, queer Nigerian artist based in Chicago, the traditional homelands of the Anishinaabe. Chi's current medium is primarily digital illustration, traditional painting and writing. Their spirit-led markings are an alchemy of personal explorations and collective memory focusing on marginalized experiences through weaving potent elemental, political, and spiritual symbols. Chi's art invites viewers to imagine a world rooted in love, curiosity, and care. Their art calls us to remember our interconnectedness and that each of us is a seed of change toward our collective liberation.
Seeds of Liberation was created by Chi Nwosu to raise awareness of Sudan and the Sudanese struggle for sovereignty, justice, and liberation. The people of Sudan are caught in a proxy war driven by the greed of external powers seeking to control their land, resources, and lives. Colonial violence and dispossession have fueled the world’s largest humanitarian crisis—one marked by human-created famine, mass displacement, and gender-based violence. Yet, the people of Sudan continue to resist, fighting for their future with unwavering strength.
At the heart of this piece are hibiscus flowers, a cherished cultural symbol for Sudanese people. Hibiscus represents resilience, courage, and unity—the very qualities that sustain Sudan’s fight for liberation.
The struggle for Sudanese freedom is deeply connected to global movements for justice. Seeds of Liberation affirms that solidarity with Sudan is essential to our shared fight for a just world. 100% of the artist’s proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to Sudanese-led mutual aid efforts.
