Takweer تكوير is a platform founded by Lebanese multidisciplinary artist and designer Marwan Kaabour in 2019. Takweer explores, archives, and celebrates queer narratives in Arab history and popular culture.
Takweer is the title of the 81st Surah of the Qu’ran that tells about signs of the coming of the day of judgement. The word takweer is derived from qura (Arabic for sphere), and it means ‘to form in the shape of a sphere’, or as I like to think of it ‘to (re)create the world’. For a bilingual, code-switching speaker, Takweer means: To make queer, to see the world through queer eyes, or via a queer gaze rooted in Arab culture and history.
This T-shirt is a feisty celebration of queerness. It flips the narrative by reclaiming the codes widely used as bigoted comments: the limp wrists, associating queerness with weakness, and the endless speculation about our private lives.
The proceeds of the sales will allow us to expand the project beyond the Instagram page and be able to fund our first series of publications.

Orders are printed and shipped when the campaign ends and are mailed first-class. Each campaign needs to reach it's minimum sales in order to be successful.
NOTE: if you order garments from multiple campaigns they will be printed & shipped separately. Delivery charges are calculated separately for each campaign and added to your shopping bag.
