Amy Redmond runs the most fun and exciting night in all of London. She started the club collective Sink The Pink seven years ago with best friend Glynn Fussell after realising that fun was missing from the capital’s nightlife. They created their dream party, which involved dressing up, being very silly, covering everyone in glitter and playing lots of pop and disco. Now a cult monthly night, they also put on a massive 3000-person Sink The Pink ball twice a year with acts like Little Mix, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and the Venga Boys and a celebrity judging panel where young drag queens get up on stage to show off their outfits. As Sink The Pink have been using Everpress to create T-shirts featuring their most popular drag queens, we thought we’d catch up with Amy to have a chat…

You've got loads of fans from all over the world now, was there a moment where you started thinking about producing merch?

We had people saying to us that it would be really great if there was a Sink The Pink T-shirt because they were so proud of what we do that they wanted to represent it outside of just the club world. They wanted to say that they went to our night and they felt a part of the movement. One of our girls just did a TED talk recently and it was about queering the norm; we'd never intellectualised what we do but she did her BA about Sink The Pink at Cambridge and got a first! Now she's got into Oxford to her MA about us. She's super clever and also a drag queen. If you take what we do outside the club space - if you’re a boy wearing nail polish or you're wearing a Sink The Pink T-shirt – then what's OK in the club space slightly becomes OK in the real world too. That's what her degree was all about and I'd never thought about that. We wanted to have something that showed you were part of Sink The Pink.

What problems and frustrations had you found with creating merch for Sink The Pink?

We over ordered! We didn't know if there'd be an audience for it or how much we should pitch it at. I feel that we slightly wasted our money because nothing existed like Everpress where you can go, "This is a limited edition batch; those ones will get printed out, bang, next." I received my Jacqui Potato T-shirt yesterday and posted it on my Facebook and there was so much jealousy, people were asking how to get one and I was like "Sorry babes, it's limited edition!" In our fast-paced culture there is that thing where people really want what's just gone. There was no hassle for us - we didn't have to even worry about the postage. I didn't have to do any work basically, which is my dream. 

When we met you, you said yes to making a T-shirt almost immediately. You didn't think twice.

Oh my god yes! It was already in my mind and I just wished something like Everpress existed. Then you came in to speak and I was just like, “wicked!” It's something that needed to happen and I'm really glad that it has. 

What was your experience in using Everpress for your recent Jacqui Potato T-shirt?

Just smooth and easy! For me it was great as it was just the first one – I’ve got a crew of about 40 drag queens and I'd love to go for years and years and keep doing it every month. There's a real cult following with Sink The Pink - why would I want to wear a T-shirt with anything else on it? They're all my friends and family and they represent what I'm into. I did think about getting those iron on prints but I was never going to get around to that - it's amazing that with this the whole process is set up. It's so easy - it's all been so easy. Even though people think that people who run a club night have loads of money, you never have any - you're always chasing some other bit of debt, so with previous merchandise we’ve done, the actual outlay from doing that first batch is just too much; I can't afford to get 100 Jacqui Potato T-shirts in case we sell 30. The exclusivity created with Everpress as you have to buy a T-shirt by a certain date is amazing. It is a very fast paced world and people want what's trending that week. It's something that I've wanted to exist and once I found out it did I was like, "Amazing! This is easy! Simps. Totes simps!"
