Keyboard Warriors

This year – the hundredth anniversary year of the Suffrage movement – women around the world are still rising up to fight for their rights. From the #MeToo movement to abortion rights marches, women are speaking out against the injustices that still blight their lives. That is why Amnesty is putting women human rights defenders at the forefront of it’s Write for Rights campaign this year. REBELLION is a creative act of solidarity between women and non-binary artists, and women human rights defenders around the world. Make a statement with the clothing you wear.

Amnesty International defends individuals who are in immediate danger of serious human rights abuse. They can range from cartoonists, poets photojournalists, graffiti artists and even slogan t-shirt wearers; most of whom have been illegally detained, tortured, or sometimes killed for their activism. Everpress will donate 40% of the profits from this promotional venture to Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust, a registered charity, with charity registration number 1051681 and will pay 10% of the profits from t-shirt sales and the event (inclusive of VAT) to Amnesty International United Kingdom Section: Company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales no. 01735872.

Alice Skinner is an illustrator, activist and visual artist from London. She is a co founder of the Pink Protest, a community of activists committed to engaging in action and supporting each other. Alice  creates hand drawn, satirical illustrations  that aim to  bring about political change with a sense of humour. Her first book ‘The revolution Handbook’ is an interactive journal that was published this year by Hachette.

“I have previously created projects that centre on the abuse that women are subjected to online and since forging a career on the internet for myself have experienced it first hand, so it is something very close to my heart and that I am passionate about. I often try to dispel stereotypes or negative representations of womxn throughout my work, whilst also injecting a sense of humour into my pieces. I felt a play on keyboard warriors, which is often depicted as a negative thing could be flipped around and used as a positive. I have formed and am part of so many incredible online spaces for womxn online, who always have each others backs and I thought my illustration would be a great way to demonstrate this allyship and women coming together on internet to help create communities.” - Alice Skinner
