I AM DELIBERATE

This year – the hundredth anniversary year of the Suffrage movement – women around the world are still rising up to fight for their rights. From the #MeToo movement to abortion rights marches, women are speaking out against the injustices that still blight their lives. That is why Amnesty is putting women human rights defenders at the forefront of it’s Write for Rights campaign this year. REBELLION is a creative act of solidarity between women and non-binary artists, and women human rights defenders around the world. Make a statement with the clothing you wear.

Amnesty International defends individuals who are in immediate danger of serious human rights abuse. They can range from cartoonists, poets photojournalists, graffiti artists and even slogan t-shirt wearers; most of whom have been illegally detained, tortured, or sometimes killed for their activism. Everpress will donate 40% of the profits from this promotional venture to Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust, a registered charity, with charity registration number 1051681 and will pay 10% of the profits from t-shirt sales and the event (inclusive of VAT) to Amnesty International United Kingdom Section: Company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales no. 01735872.

Leyla Reynolds is an illustrator and curator living and working in London. Her practice concerns the intersection between visual representations and socio-political change. She is a founding member and art director at award-winning online magazine gal-dem (run voluntarily by women and non-binary people of colour) and has worked with clients such as Adidas, Greater London Assembly and V&A. She has worked with a wide range of clients including Crack."I wanted to depict unity in the face of adversity in this piece, which is why I named it after the Audre Lorde quote ‘I am deliberate and afraid of nothing’ in order to demonstrate the unity we embody when we engage in truly intersectional feminism. The subjects in the piece are all holding hands in a childlike way, reminiscent of the ring-o-ring of roses dance, in a way which I hope demonstrates the simplicity of the united message." - LEYLA REYNOLDS
