Endangered Spaces was the first event at Ajabu Ajabu's AV house in Dar es Salaam. Funny that we should begin an insistence on the necessity of gathering - for what is approaching, and soon to exceed 3 years - with cautionary tales.
The new light of our audio-visual collective's reality without that space feels like a dream. A deeply unpleasant one, with fresh vocabularies for remorseless consolidations of wealth and power, but a dream nonetheless. It is at once terrifying and liberating to see how fragile a reality good stories create. Like a reminder that we’ve been dreaming all along. It is basically why we’re here.
Our sincere love and gratitude to all whose presence have allowed the AV house to continue to exist for us in this way - for filling the place with the life that is all of what survives that time now.
