How do you know each other?

J : I think Eric was one of the first people I followed on Instagram a couple years ago! A classmate sent his account to me if I remember correctly.

E : As Jim said, we have followed each other for quite a while on instagram, observing each others work and progress. Hopefully we will met in person one day. :)

How did you interpret 'Connection'?

I guess my first intention was to try and find a way to keep Erics work intact whilst connecting it to my practice. Since I work with acetone printing it allows me to work with existing images and mix them together.

How did you approach your design together?

J : I proposed my initial idea to Eric and he was up for it so we hit the ground running! He supplied me with photos of a big collection of his work. Small drawings, big paintings… We sort of discussed that it would be interesting to make acetone prints with his bigger paintings.I did a few trials but while working it dawned on me that we needed to treat the big paintings the same as Erics pen drawings. So I Xeroxed them and made a couple acetone collages with those prints. The way his paintings are set up give a lot of opportunity for exciting negative space areas, so I tried to emphasize that. Here are some pics of the originals ;)

E : I love how Jim somehow sampled my work, mixing it up with his (way of) work and turning it magically into our work. It showed me that there’s some connection between us which somehow develops from our way of artistic work (probably there’s even more things in common involved, like some specific esthetic approach or preferences or maybe even some similar artistic development..?)
